The 2024-2025 season will be the first year of the expanded College Football Playoffs, bringing 12 teams into the fold rather than just four. Even with the expanded field, Colorado football finds itself on the outside looking in. 

Taking the shortest (+1200) and longest odds (+2500), this means the Buffs have between a 3.9% and 7.7% chance of making the playoffs this season via implied probability. Despite the Buffs Week 1 victory, their playoff odds shortened on just two of the above betting sites (DraftKings and bet365). No matter how you slice it, Colorado's playoff chances have them outside of legitimate contender range. Just as a reference, Utah has the shortest playoff odds among Big 12 teams, and they come in at +180 (35.7% chance) according to DraftKings Colorado.

In its first year in the Big 12, odds makers currently aren't viewing Colorado as a threat to take down the conference. Although their odds vary across different betting operators, the Buffs generally have the sixth-longest odds to win the Big 12.

Colorado Football Heisman Contenders

The Buffs have two players with Heisman Trophy odds on the majority of legal betting sites: quarterback Shedeur Sanders and the multi-faceted Travis Hunter. Shedeur Sanders' Heisman odds are slightly shorter compared to Hunter, but both could climb odds boards early if they jump out to hot starts, just as they did last year.
