With Thanksgiving in the rearview mirror and Christmas fast approaching, many Coloradans are on the lookout for the perfect candle to set the tone for the most festive time of the year.

When you research candles, a theme emerges when it comes to the most popular scents for residents of the Centennial State and beyond, with Colorado’s favorite candle being among the most popular scents in America.

To determine which candle scent is the state’s favorite, BetColorado.com took a break from Colorado sportsbooks and utilized Statista data on the most popular candle scents worldwide as a starting point. We then used Google Trends to determine the most searched scent in each state. After completing the trends over the past five years (Nov. 2018 to Nov. 2023), we were able to determine the top 3 candle scents for each state.

Fall Staple Wins Out

The top candle scent among the Rockies was pumpkin, which beat out national favorite vanilla and rose for the top spot statewide. Colorado is one of nine states to choose the festive gourd as their favorite scent — so a bit of an upset in Colorado betting apps terms.

Colorado’s candle choice flew in the face of national trends, with 16 states choosing vanilla as their top candle scent, compared to nine for pumpkin and one (California) that went with rose. Overall, pumpkin was the most popular runner-up choice, with 13 states choosing the fall scent as their No. 2 pick. Rose was the No. 3 choice in 17 states overall, including Colorado.
