Avalanche Look to Build on Past December Successes
Fact Checked by Michael Peters

On the journey to win the Stanley Cup, a team must string successful months together during the regular season, not only to make the NHL Playoffs but to line itself up for a good seed once it gets in to have a shot.

With that in mind and with the third month of the NHL season coming up Friday, BetColorado.com utilized ChamporChumps.us to find the records of every NHL team in December from the 2019-20 season to the 2022-23 season. We were able to find the best to worst teams during December of the NHL season to aid in your wagers at Colorado sportsbooks.

All teams didn’t participate in the same number of games, so ranking is based on win percentage. Here are the December records:

The red-hot and 2022 Staney Cup champion Colorado Avalanche (15-6, 30 points), currently first in the Western Conference’s Central Division, have finished within the top 12 over the last three seasons and are one of 13 teams to have 20 or more victories. Colorado (20-15-3, .526) ranks 12th on the list among December triumphs, just one behind the New York Rangers (21-15-3, .538).

For contrast, the Carolina Hurricanes have compiled the best record in December (27-8, .771), followed by Pittsburgh (25-8, .758), Tampa Bay (28-10-1, .718), Washington (25-12-1, .658) and Toronto (21-10-1, .656). The Avalanche Stanley Cup odds are extremely favorable as they shoot for their second championship in the last three years and fourth overall.

ESPN BET Avalanche Futures Market

The ESPN BET Colorado futures markets on Wednesday had Boston and Colorado (+800) as the league favorites to win the Stanley Cup.

However, Colorado (+400) is listed as the second favorite to win the Western Conference behind defending champion Vegas (+350). The Avalanche (+105) are the favorite to win the Central Division over Dallas (+160) and are a shoo-in at -3000 to make the playoffs, +1100 to not.
